Student Life

Something for everyone

The drive and independence of Brown’s students are most visible in more than 200 student organizations on campus.

It has been through the hard work and vision of individual students that groups such as Brown Student Radio, the first student-run radio station in the country, and the Brown Daily Herald have come into being. These student-run organizations are now integral parts of the college community, and the community at large.

But don’t feel the pressure to start or join a group that will be around for your great-grandchildren. If radio or journalism aren't your cup of tea, then how about singing pirate shanties (Arrr!), performing experiments aboard NASA's KC-135 zero-g aircraft (Brown University Space Club), or Chinese lion dancing (Brown University Lion Dance Team).

Each class that passes through Brown leaves its own distinctive groups behind. Search through the list of student organizations to see what we’ve got. If you need to put a face to the group, Student Activities Night during first-year orientation is another way to see what’s out there.

And if you have your own idea when you arrive on campus, you’re sure to find others like you who will want to make it happen.
