Limits to students’ privacy rights are stipulated by law and by Brown policy. The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 grants parents or legal guardians access to a dependent student’s grades if a written request is submitted to the Registrar’s Office (Box K, Brown University, Providence RI 20912, Registrar@brown.edu). Once submitted, a formal notification of the request is made to the student, and, if accepted, a copy of semester grades will be sent to the parent making the request.
