How to Apply

Applying to the Leadership Institute is easy. A complete application consists of five items:

1) An Application (on-line or PDF Download)
2) A Teacher's Recommendation (PDF Download)
3) An official school transcript
4) The application fee (see below). International students: Because of the difficulty and expense of forwarding money internationally, we will waive the application fee until after an admission review.
5) An essay describing why you want to attend a Leadership Institute course. Social Change applicants: please describe your community involvement and your interest in social issues

Once we have received your complete application, our admission committee will review it and make a decision within ten days. You will be notified of the decision by mail. We do not read incomplete applications, so please be sure that your recommendations and transcripts were actually sent to us.

Application Fee Schedule

Applications will be evaluated as they arrive, so interested students are encouraged to apply early.  

Please make a check or money order payable to Brown University with your name and course code on the notation line and mail it to the address above.

Financial Aid

The deadline to apply for the Dean’s Scholarship has passed.

Each year, limited financial aid is available on a first-come, first-served basis, to high school students who have demonstrated financial need. Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States and have submitted a complete application by the deadline.

Our scholarship fund is limited. As a result, we cannot guarantee that all students who apply before the deadline will receive aid. Awards are made until the funds are depleted. We encourage students to apply as early as possible.
