Life on Campus: Beyond the Classroom

So what’s life really like in the Ivy League? As a pre-college student, you’ll find out. Summer@Brown is a true residential college experience. A hallmark of the program is learning to balance the competing demands of active academic, social, and co-curricular activities.

What are students doing outside of class?

Brown University sits atop College Hill overlooking the vibrant downtown of Providence, Rhode Island. The historic main campus covers nearly 140 acres, all of it within a 10-minute walk of its hub, the College Green.  Students may take advantage of activities such as:

  • Trips to Boston, MA, Newport, RI, area beaches and shopping outlets
  • Documentary films and movies
  • Yoga
  • Karaoke
  • Talent shows
  • Dances
  • Providence Place Mall
  • Water Fire and Water Place Park
  • Exploring the rare collections and exhibits in Brown’s world class libraries

Maturity and Independence

It is important to keep in mind that Summer@Brown is an academic program that requires a certain level of maturity and independence. You are expected to manage your time appropriately and make good choices. If you have an academic concern, you are encouraged to seek out the guidance of your instructor or a dean in the Office of Summer & Continuing Studies. If you have a personal concern, you are encouraged to seek out your Resident Advisor for advice or assistance.

As a member of the Brown community, you must follow rules and policies for your own well-being and for that of other students. Specific policies apply to aspects of academic and residence life, including class attendance, plagiarism, curfew, quiet hours, and disruptive behavior. The Code of Conduct Agreement is sent to all families and students for your consent and signature at the time of admission. Your commitment to upholding the program’s policies and expectations for community living will ensure our ability to provide students with a successful academic and social experience.
