Housing

Rooms

Students live in Brown’s residence halls within walking distance of classrooms and dining halls.  Students are randomly assigned to single or double occupancy rooms on single-sex floors with single-sex shared bathrooms.  For SPARK students ONLY, we will make every attempt to honor roommate and single-room requests.  Please email requests to summer@brown.edu.  Each room provides typical college furniture. The residence halls do not have central air conditioning.  A limited quantity of window fans may be purchased at the Brown Bookstore.  We will honor special-needs requests for disabilities; please provide a maximum amount of notice on your medical form.

A highly trained and dedicated residential staff will be supervising SPARK students all day for the duration of the program.  The residence halls are supervised 24/7 and students are required to abide by a 10:00 pm curfew.  After 10:00 pm, students must be in the residence hall. After 11:00 pm, students must stay in their rooms for the remainder of the evening. Exceptions will be made only when there is a supervised group activity taking place on or off campus.

Please note that all students, with the exception of commuter students from Rhode Island and nearby Massachusetts, are required to stay in Brown University’s residence halls.

Keys

Room Key  Brown University issues one room key to each resident assigned a room in a Brown residence hall during summer months. Students are expected to be in possession of their room key whenever they leave the room, even if it’s “just for a minute.”

Lock-Outs  If you are locked out of your room, contact your Resident Advisor. A fee of $25 will be charged to your bill for each lock-out.

Lost/Stolen Keys  Report lost or stolen keys to your Resident Advisor. A fee of $75.00 per key will be charged to your bill for each lost or stolen key. Every effort will be made to change locks within 24 hours of a report that a room key is missing.

Key Return  Keys are due immediately upon checking out of your room. This is necessary both for reasons of security and to allow us to make the room available for the next resident. You are responsible for returning your key to your Resident Advisor. A key (s) not returned necessitates a lock change and a fee of $75.00 will be charged to your bill.

Lost & Found

The major lost and found location on campus during the summer session is the Department of Public Safety (401-863-1663)

Items of value left behind in residence halls such as jewelry, money, and laptop computers will be turned into the Office of Summer & Continuing Studies (401-863-7900).

If you find a lost item on campus, please turn it in to the Public Safety Communications Center in the Faunce Arch (Waterman Street side).
