Check-In & Orientation

9 a.m.–1 p.m.
Students are required to arrive on campus between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on the Sunday before their program starts. Students will be directed to the check-in location where they will receive their residence hall room keys, Brown I.D. card, orientation schedule, and a campus information packet. Although students should make every effort to plan their travel to Brown based on a Sunday arrival, procedures are in place to accommodate Saturday arrival for those students who are arriving from long distances and need to work around flight schedules. There is a $100 early arrival fee for students arriving on Saturday. Permission for early arrival must be requested and approved in advance of the program. If a student meets the early arrival criteria due to long-distance travel, please return to this webpage and complete the online request. As buildings are in use throughout the summer, the rooms for specific programs may not be available until Sunday at 9 a.m.; therefore, any approved early arrivals may be housed in a different building than the one they will be assigned to on Sunday.

For directions to campus please see this page.

Campus Tours – tours for students and their families will be given at 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and 12noon. Tours depart from the steps in front of Faunce House on The College Green.

1:30 p.m.
The formal orientation program for students begins with a Dean’s Welcome in Alumni Hall. Parents and students are invited to attend this session. An orientation for students only will take place at 3 p.m.

Students Attending Back-to-Back SPARK Sessions

Students who are attending consecutive SPARK sessions may stay in their original room assignment and eat in the dining halls. However, you will have a new roommate. Residential staff will plan activities for students staying over on the Saturday in between sessions.

Students Traveling Alone

Residential staff will be available to accompany SPARK students to and from the TF Green Airport, Providence train station, or Providence bus station. Please note that students will be billed $35 fees each way. Students traveling alone must complete the “Travel Alone” form and return it to us no later than June 30th. We may not be able to accommodate requests received after this date.  One week prior to your SPARK session, we will provide you with the name and phone number of the staff member who will meet the student.
