Undergraduate Summer Session

The Undergraduate Summer Session at Brown University offers small classes in a variety of fields, from anthropology to visual arts. By taking summer classes at Brown University, you can improve your academic standing, enroll in courses that are typically full during the rest of the academic year, or explore new subjects.

Brown University is located in the city of Providence, the capital of Rhode Island, at the head of Narragansett Bay. The campus overlooks the center of the city from College Hill, an historic residential area that Brown shares with the Rhode Island School of Design.

Brown, whose history reaches back more than two centuries, maintains a university-college of liberal arts, offering many of the advantages of both the small college and the large university. Brown's respect for high academic standards is evident in its Summer Session curriculum, which seeks to uphold Brown's international reputation as a teaching college within a research university.

Excellent teachers from Brown's instructional staff and a few selected instructors from other institutions comprise the faculty of the Summer Session. All faculty members hold office hours regularly to assist students with their individual problems and projects. This arrangement, combined with a very generous faculty-to-student ratio, enables instructors and staff to care for your particular needs. In addition, classes are small, allowing dynamic discussions, friendly student support, and plenty of time with your instructor.
