Housing

If you are returning in the Fall...

1. Regular Housing Lottery:

A. Re-enrollment: Make sure you have re-enrolled (contacted a Dean) by March.
B.Proxy: Since you will not be able to attend the lottery, you must have a friend/proxy who will participate on your behalf (your proxy can include you in their housing group, or they can represent you individually). You can send an email to Residential Life with the full name and Brown ID# of the student being appointed proxy. Or you could ask your proxy to fill out the Proxy Form at the ResLife Office. (The Proxy form is a very simple form asking for both your names at Brown ID#s)
C.Register: Complete the online lottery application in March.

2. Summer Housing Assignment:
If you missed the housing lottery, fill out a Housing Preference Form by mid June; forms are processed in July. If you do not complete a form, your housing will be randomly assigned.

3. Vacancy Pull-In:
If your friend/friends have a vacancy in either a room or suite they would like you to fill, all parties involved must sign the Vacancy Pull-in Form. Forms are due by mid June and processed in July.

4. Off Campus Permission:
Off-campus permission is offered for the academic year (September to May) only.  You must complete the Off-Campus Application Form. A proxy cannot complete this application for you.

A. All rising juniors and seniors are eligible to apply for permission; Applications are approved in order of seniority.
B. Since off-campus permission is only guaranteed to rising seniors who meet the application deadline, it is recommended that all other applicants participate in the Lottery to obtain housing even if they are on the waitlist for off-campus permission.
C. No student should sign a lease for an off-campus apartment unless s/he has received official off-campus permission from the Office of Residential Life.
D. All undergraduate students are required to live in University residence halls for a minimum of 6 semesters unless they have off-campus permission or are a Resumed Education Program student, married student, local student living with their parents or will reside in BACH co-op housing.

If you are returning in the Spring:

1. Mid-Year Assignment Process:  You must submit your Housing Preference Form by December 15th. Assignments will be sent out via e-mail prior to the start of the spring semester. If you do not complete a Housing Preference Form you will be randomly assigned housing at the end of the assignment process.

2. Vacancy Pull In: If your friend/friends have a vacancy in either a room or suite they would like you to fill, all parties involved must sign the Vacancy Pull-in Form. Forms are due by December 15th. Pull-ins will be processed and early January and you will be notified via e-mail when the assignment is confirmed.

3. Off Campus Permission: Off-campus permission is not offered for just the Spring semester.
