Curriculum
Fieldwork
Participants spend three days a week working in carefully selected placements. Past classroom placements include the Muscota School in Washington Heights, PS20 in the Lower East Side, and the Renaissance School in Jackson Heights. Past policy placements include the Brooklyn Young Women’s Collective, the New York Historical Society, and Teachers Unit.
Coursework
Academic work at Bank Street College of Education includes a foundations course focusing on current issues in education, elective coursework, and the UES group seminar, where participants work with UES faculty to connect their academic coursework to fieldwork experiences, assess strategies, and share insights. The UES seminar culminates in a final capstone project and presentation; in developing their final projects, participants work to meet a need they have observed in their fieldwork placement.
Coupled with weekly program advisement and field trips to other participant’s placements, museums, and other settings, the program coursework adds up to a total of 15 Bank Street credits.
