Since 1989, Brown University has sponsored a Midyear Completion Celebration in December for Brown students expecting to complete degree requirements at that time. Usually scheduled on the first Saturday in December, the celebration provides students an opportunity to celebrate their achievements with family and friends in an intimate, relaxed setting. The Dean of the College presides over the ceremony; the reception following the ceremony is hosted by President Ruth Simmons.

Students completing their degree requirements midyear are issued their diplomas in May of the following calendar year. They may attend the May commencement preceding the December of their degree completion or the May commencement after the December of their completion.

In 2009 the midyear celebration will take place on Saturday, December 5 at 4pm in the Salomon Center for Teaching, De Ciccio Family Auditorium. A reception will follow immediately in Sayles Hall.
