AP Scores

Biology -- a score of 4 or 5 earns unassigned credit in biology and placement beyond BIOL 0200. Even with qualifying AP scores, you are urged to take at least two college-level biology courses with laboratory.

Chemistry -- Brown University does not accept AP scores in chemistry.

Mathematics -- AB Calculus 4 or 5: earns credit for MATH 0090. BC Calculus 4 or 5: earns credit for both MATH 0090 and MATH 0100. BC Calculus: earns credit for MA 0090. Even with AP credit, we recommend that you take at least one semester of college-level mathematics (preferably calculus).

Physics -- 5 in Physics (Mech.), or 4 in Physics C (Mech.) plus 5 in Physics C (Elec. and Mag.), or 5 in Physics B. Any of these three options earns placement in PHYS 0040. Students who then successfully complete PHYS 0040 may receive retroactive credit for PHYS 0030. Be sure that your AP credit appears on your transcript once you have completed PHYS 0040. However, even with AP credit in physics, we recommend that you take two full semesters on the college level.

English -- Brown does not accept AP credit in English. You should therefore plan on taking at least two semesters of English.

For further information on each of these subjects as premed requirements, consult the list of recommended courses.

NOTE: Students who wish to have AP credit notations reflected on the academic record must seek these notations and ensure receipt of all required documentation well before they graduate. The official academic record of all graduating students is sealed upon Commencement to reflect what was in effect upon degree completion. Therefore, no transcript notations will be made post-Commencement of AP credit as it was not used to clear a student's degree requirements.

Consult the following web site for all details about AP credit transcript notations:
