Ten Faculty Advising Fellows Appointed
The Offices of Student Life and the Dean of the College are very pleased to announce the appointment of ten new non-residential Faculty Advising Fellows: Amit Basu in Chemistry, Tom Doeppner in Computer Science, Anani Dzidzienyo in Africana Studies, Gregory Elliot in Sociology, Thalia Field in Literary Arts, Lina Fruzzetti in Anthropology, Paul Phillips in Music, Patricia Sobral in Portuguese and Brazilian Studies, Jan Tullis in Geological Sciences, and Kay Warren in Anthropology. We are thrilled that these faculty have agreed to serve in this role, which will enhance the advising support provided to all Brown students.

21 Brown Seniors and Recent Alumni Win Fulbright Scholarships!
20 members of the class of 2008 and 1 member of the class of 2007 have been awarded Fulbright grants for the 2008-2009 academic year to pursue independent research, study, and/or teach English in 17 different countries including Brazil, China, France, Germany, Japan, Kenya, Kuwait, Malaysia, Nicaragua, and Yemen. The students will be undertaking projects in a wide variety of fields such as Anthropology, Art History, Dance Studies, and Public Health as part of this flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government.

Wilfredo Perez named David J. Zucconi ’55 Fellow
The Office of the Dean of the College is pleased to announce that Wilfredo Perez ’08 has been named the David J. Zucconi ’55 Fellow for the 2008-2009 academic year. The Zucconi Fellowship for International Study was created by the Office of the President to honor the memory of David J. Zucconi ‘55, who died in 2002 after decades of tireless and exemplary service to Brown. The award provides an opportunity for a graduating senior who possesses leadership, a commitment to public service and mentoring, and a strong academic record to pursue a year-long independent research project abroad. The fellowship provides a stipend of $25,000, plus travel round trip airfare.

The Office of the Dean of the College is pleased to announce that the winners of 2007 Senior Thesis Publication Competition are: Noah Gardiner, Religious Studies, Imagination, Optics and Mediations: John Dee and the Art of Skrying; Shepherd Laughlin, International Relations, Global China, Local Chinas: Modernization and Ethnic Identity in the People's Republic; Zarah Rahman, Development Studies, Land Rights and Resettlement in Indonesia in the Aftermath of the 2004 Tsunami; and Joshua Siegle, Neuroscience, Sensory Substitution and Intentionality.
