Ten Faculty Advising Fellows Appointed
07/10/2008 - The Offices of Student Life and the Dean of the College are very pleased to announce the appointment of ten new non-residential Faculty Advising Fellows: Amit Basu in Chemistry, Tom Doeppner in Computer Science, Anani Dzidzienyo in Africana Studies, Gregory Elliot in Sociology, Thalia Field in Literary Arts, Lina Fruzzetti in Anthropology, Paul Phillips in Music, Patricia Sobral in Portuguese and Brazilian Studies, Jan Tullis in Geological Sciences, and Kay Warren in Anthropology. We are thrilled that these faculty have agreed to serve in this role, which will enhance the advising support provided to all Brown students.
The non-residential advising Fellows will serve three-year terms and will work with the six residential advising fellows on campus: Stephen Foley (English) at 134 Hope Street, Peter Heywood (Biology) and Nancy Jacobs (History) at 60 Charlesfield Street, Timothy Harris (History) at 95 Brown Street, William Suggs (Chemistry) at 22 Benevolent Street, and Ethan Pollack (History) at 38 Charlesfield Street.
The goal of the new program is to increase opportunities for undergraduates to interact informally with faculty on campus, and to link academic life with the residential experience. The Fellow houses will soon be adorned with flags bearing the Brown seal, so that students will be able to see them while walking across campus. Websites, with details about events hosted by each house, will be launched before the start of the fall semester.
We hope you will join us in thanking all of the advising fellows for the energy, the wisdom, and the care they will bring to our undergraduates in the years to come.
Yours sincerely,
Katherine Bergeron
Dean of the College
