CourseMap, a new online tool for browsing Brown's course offerings

01/22/2009 - The Dean of the College is pleased to announce the launch of CourseMap, a new online tool for browsing Brown’s course offerings. Designed by Dan Rosenberg ‘09, CourseMap allows students and faculty to search for courses by instructor, topic, or key word, as well as by department and course name and number.

CourseMap employs a robust visualization software package from Thinkmap, an industry leader in graphical data technology. The program links courses, topics, and instructors through dynamic, web-like graphical configurations that shift through “informotions,” which are modeled on physical properties such as magnetism, elasticity, and viscosity. Click on a new topic, instructor, or course, and the whole graph restructures itself to represent a different set of relationships.

But CourseMap is better explored than explained. We invite you to use this new tool through shopping period and after, alone or together with your academic advisor, friends, and classmates.
