Matthew Corritore ’09 selected to the USA Today’s 2009 All-USA College Academic Second Team
04/30/2009 - Matthew Corritore, Brown University Class of 2009, was among 20 students named to the USA Today’s 2009 All-USA College Academic Second Team, an honor given for outstanding intellectual achievement and leadership. Matthew’s name and biography will be printed in the April 29, 2009 edition of the USA Today.
“USA TODAY is pleased to be able to honor academic excellence and community service throughout the country,” said USA TODAY executive editor John Hillkirk.
Matthew is a Public Policy and American Institutions and Political Science concentrator from Buffalo, NY. During a year away from Brown, he worked at an HIV/AIDS service provider, helping to design nutrition programs and raise approximately $180,000. At Brown, Matthew has been a Captain of the Mock Trial Team, worked as a research assistant in the Political Science Department, and served as an ad-hoc community organizer for Making Connections Providence.
This year, Matthew was named a Roosevelt Institution Senior Fellow and was awarded the Taubman Center’s Noah Krieger Prize for Academic Excellence in Public Policy. He hopes to work at a think tank in the fall, and wishes one day to complete a Ph.D. in Government or Organization Studies.
The second team of 20, along with a first and third team and honorable mentions, was selected by a panel of judges from hundreds of students nominated by colleges and universities across the United States. Judges considered grades, leadership, activities and, most importantly, how students extend their intellectual talents beyond the classroom.
For more information on these winners as well as the first-, third- and honorable mention-team members, see the Wednesday, April 29, editions of USA TODAY or log on to www.allstars.usatoday.com
