Undergraduate Student Orientation 2009

Note to newly admitted students: You recently received a newsletter from the Admission Office entitled “Around Brown” which includes an incorrect version of the 2009 Fall Academic Calendar. Please find a correct version of the 2009 Fall Academic Calendar here: http://brown.edu/college/orientation/year_at_a_glance/

Congratulations on your admission to Brown University! Every part of our campus community - the faculty, the staff, and a legion of student peer advisors including the Orientation Welcoming Committee (OWC) - looks forward to welcoming you to Brown at Orientation, which begins Saturday, September 5. Pre-Orientation Programs in which students may elect to participate begin several days prior to the 5th. Whether you are a first-year student, a transfer or visiting student, or a Resumed Undergraduate Education student, Orientation will help you acclimate to Brown’s distinctive living and learning community. We have planned Orientation with four primary goals in mind:

  1. To help you learn about the nature of liberal education at Brown;
  2. To familiarize you with Brown’s campus environment and the various offices, resources, clubs, and activities;
  3. To facilitate getting to know your classmates;
  4. To introduce you to Brown’s expectations about how to live and learn as individuals while respecting others in your new community.

General move-in for students Saturday, September 5, 2009
Orientation begins for all new students Saturday evening, September 5, 2009
Classes begin Wednesday, September 9, 2009

During these beginning days, you have a unique chance to learn about the extraordinary academic and co-curricular opportunities here at Brown, and to come to understand the importance of community involvement and personal responsibility. We wish you all the best, and we look forward to meeting as many of you as possible throughout the fall.
