Summer Mailings for First-Year Students

July 16, 1008

Notice about July mailing

A number of students have called to tell us that their most recent mailing arrived with the envelope torn and with items missing, most usually Rory Stewart’s book, The Places In Between. Below is a list of everything that went into the envelope. If you received a torn envelope but have every item on the list below, you can rest easy. If any items were missing from your mailing, please call us at (401) 863-9800 or email Advising@brown.edu. We will be happy to mail you whatever items were missing from your envelope.

Your most recent mailing contained the following:

  1. A cover letter from the Dean of the College, Katherine Bergeron
  2. A soft-cover book The Places in Between by Rory Stewart (this is the “First Reading”)
  3. A bookmark
  4. A letter from Dean of the College Katherine Bergeron and Vice President for Campus Life & Student Services Margaret Klawunn addressing student standards of conduct and the requirement for you to complete the on-line tutorial
  5. Academic Code and Non-Academic Disciplinary System handbook – this is a 35-page, red, white, and grey booklet (also available as a download from this Orientation website)
  6. Navigating Brown: Your First 72-Hours on Campus (also available as a download from this Orientation website)
  7. Orientation Events for Parents and Families 2008 (also available as a download from this Orientation website)
  8. A flyer about the Building Understanding Across Differences (BUAD) program.

We apologize to those of you who received damaged mailings, and we hope you will call us if you have not already done so. We have identified the source of the problem and are working with our mailing center to correct it.
