Kendall Brostuen

Kendall Brostuen received his M.A. in international relations from the University of South Carolina in 1987 and his B.A. in Spanish and Political Science from the University of North Dakota in 1983. He has extensive experience in managing education abroad programs, having served as a resident director at the University of Granada, Spain from 1988-1996, Dean of the Institute for International Studies, Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania (1996-2003), and Senior Executive Director of the Center for Global and International Programs at Roger Williams University, Bristol, Rhode Island (2003-04). Brostuen has articulated agreements with foreign universities in over a dozen countries, conducted numerous formal site reviews of college and university programs abroad, presented papers at NAFSA workshops and American Council on Education conferences, and served on panels at conferences sponsored by the Forum on Education Abroad and the Council on International Educational Exchange. He currently sits on the editorial board of Frontiers, The Interdisciplinary Journal for Study Abroad, and is a member of the Forum on Education Abroad's National Review Panel on quality improvement for the education abroad field.
In addition to his involvement in the education abroad field, Brostuen has a keen interest in the many cultural facets that have come to define modern-day Spain and is particularly intrigued by the question of Spanish national identity. In 1994, he co-founded the Basque Ethnographic Research Project, a summer program which introduces students to the complexities of ethnic nationalism and challenges them to reflect on how local culture defines their value systems and sense of identity. At home he enjoys outdoor pursuits with his wife and three sons.
