Royce Fellowships
Every spring, approximately twenty students at Brown are inducted into the Society of Royce Fellows, receiving a fellowship of $4,000 to pursue a research project of their own design under the sponsorship of a Brown faculty member. The program helps undergraduates explore their interests and passions in ways a traditional college curriculum does not allow.
In addition to completing their proposed project, Royce fellows are expected to be active participants in the Society of Royce Fellows. Challenged through regularly scheduled events to present their vision and to consider those held by others, students deepen their commitment to their own values and ideas and develop a sense of responsibility to the community and world beyond Brown.
In their role as faculty fellows to the program, six to eight faculty help craft this collaborative experience each year. By hosting monthly dinners, attending presentations, and generating discussion, participating faculty model the notions of community, mutual learning, and respect that were the impetus behind the idea of a society within the larger culture of Brown. Bringing together outstanding Brown students, faculty, and Royce alums, the Royce Fellowship Program strives to create an environment for accomplished and budding intellectuals alike to pursue their individual projects and to develop collegial relations with one another.
