Rhode Island Hospital

Rhode Island Hospital The program is based at Rhode Island Hospital, an academic medical center and the only Level I Trauma Center in Rhode Island. The Andrew F. Anderson Emergency Center, newly built in 2005, has a volume of 100,000 patients per year, making it one of the busiest Emergency Departments in the Northeast. This state-of-the-art facility features 72 urgent rooms, 6 critical care bays (each with the capacity for 2 patients), multiple spacious procedure rooms, 2 dedicated CT scanners, and a Chest Pain observation unit. The Bridge ED is one of only a few in the country that contains an emergency cardiac catheterization lab. The ED provides 24-hour interpreter services, 24-hr radiologist support in the department, 24-hour social work availability, a full toxicology laboratory, and many other support services necessary for a busy teaching hospital.

Miriam Hospital

The Miriam Hospital is a private, community hospital located 2.5 miles from Rhode Island Hospital. The Miriam ED has a volume of approximately 48,000 patients per year. Its patient population reflects the hospital’s location in a middle-class neighborhood, with many patients having direct access to primary care. Rotations at the Miriam Hospital provide a valuable balance to the urban experience at Rhode Island Hospital.

Hasbro Children’s Hospital

Hasbro Children's Hospital Hasbro Children’s Hospital, located next to Rhode Island Hospital, is the area’s only dedicated children’s hospital. The Hasbro ED sees over 48,000 patients per year. It is a pediatric Level I Trauma Center and a major referral center; as such, it runs an active pediatric critical care transport service, with which residents are closely involved. The Hasbro ED is staffed by board-certified Pediatric Emergency Medicine attendings, all of whom are full faculty members in the Department of Emergency Medicine.

Women & Infants Hospital

Women & Infants’ Hospital is a dedicated specialty hospital adjacent to Rhode Island Hospital. It has the tenth busiest labor & delivery floor in the nation. Its triage area sees over 30,000 visits per year. The hospital provides all obstetrical services and all inpatient gynecological services for the region. Residents rotate on the OB/GYN service at Women and Infants for one month during the PGY-1 year.
