Banners, Displays, and Information Tables
Banners
The following spaces connected with the Student Activities Office are available for groups to hang publicity banners:
- Leung Balcony (3 spaces available)
- Faunce Arch (1 space)
- Sharpe Refectory, in front between 2 poles (2 spaces)
Other spaces are available on campus, including:
- Andrews Hall (contact Residential Life at x3-3500)
Groups are only allowed to reserve one space in any of the given banner areas. There is a one week per semester per group limit; however, groups can get additional time if the space is available.
Banners must be no wider than 5’ nor deeper than 9’ and must be secured with rope or string at all four corners (sheets for banners may be purchased in the SAO for $1). NO BOTTLES MAY BE USED. Approved banner locations have eyelets available for securing the bottom of the banner, as well as the top. Bottles will blow in a strong wind and have broken windows in both buildings. Your group will be charged for the replacement cost of the window – please make sure to follow this guideline. When tying banners in the courtyard, do not tie top of banner to top railing as this is a mobility-impaired entrance to Stuart Theatre.
Events where alcohol will be served may only use the Sharpe Refectory banner spaces.
Displays
In addition to banners, there are several display boards available for reservation in Faunce Arch and the J. Walter Wilson mailroom -- like a banner only behind glass. Four such boards are in the mailroom area of J. Walter Wilson, each measuring 28” x 41.” Three boards are also available in Faunce Arch, each measuring 19” x 42”. To reserve a board, contact the Student Activities Office.
Displays operate on similar policies as banners (above), including being reserved for alcohol-free events and programs only.
There are also display boards in the Arch and J. Walter Wilson for general flyers. Just drop off copies in the SAO, and the staff will put them in the board for you.
Information Tables
Several locations exist for student organizations to be physically present to sell tickets, distribute information, or advertise programs.
JWW/Mailroom Lobby
Student groups may reserve table spaces in the lobby of the University mailroom (J. Walter Wilson building). To reserve space, please e-mail or stop by the SAO. Groups receive half of a six foot table and may reserve a space 1 week at a time. PLEASE NOTE: The J. Walter Wilson lobby is a public space and, in response to a theft attempt in March 2008, additional protocols have been developed for those selling items.
Sharpe Refectory
Contact Dining to check about having a table near the entrance to the Refectory.
Outdoors/Main Green
In addition to signing up for mailroom tables, there are three table spots by the Bear statue in front of Faunce House. To sign up, stop by or e-mail the SAO.
In addition, on a limited basis, displays, exhibits, and informational programs may also be held on one of the University's many green spaces; such requests should submit an on-line form.
