Time for a change at the George Street Journal

Dear members of the Brown community,

For nearly a quarter century, the George Street Journal has shared news and information about and throughout the Brown community. It has chronicled the University's milestones, profiled its people, and highlighted the contributions that Brown makes to advancing knowledge.

With any publication, however, there comes a time to rethink how it achieves its purpose. Much has changed at Brown since this newspaper was first published in 1980. To ensure that you - our readers - have access to a publication that reflects the dynamism of Brown today and where it's headed in the future, we are planning some exciting changes at the GSJ.

Beginning in late January, the Office of Public Affairs and University Relations will begin producing a new publication to take the place of the GSJ. It will still feature news and information about on-campus activities, but we will add some new content features, color photography, and a more contemporary layout and design.

You'll also see the newsletter less frequently - about every six weeks during the academic year and at least once in the summer. This publication schedule will allow our staff to develop features and cover more of the campus in an even more thoughtful way. The schedule will preclude us from maintaining a calendar of events on campus, but you can still keep up to date through the online University event calendar. We also will provide you more information about other ways to advertise your events.

Finally, the newsletter will have a new name, one that we believe will better reflect the publication's continuing purpose: Inside Brown.

We trust that you'll let us know what you think about Inside Brown when it debuts. We look forward to your ideas for stories that will make the publication as sharp, interesting, and vibrant as the Brown community.
