Five major construction projects going on this summer
The end of classes once again brings construction and renovation projects to
the campus. This year, the major summer projects, according to Carol Wooten,
assistant vice president of planning and construction, are:
- Wilbour Hall: The project will renovate the building containing headquarters
of the History of Math and Egyptology departments and some offices of the
English department. Interior renovations include a new heating system,
rewiring, fire and safety improvements, painting and carpeting. The project
began last December and is expected to be completed by September.
- Wriston Quad: This is the second phase of the project to renovate the nine
buildings of Wriston Quadrangle. Attention this summer will be on Buxton,
Chapin, Sears and Wayland. The work includes rewiring, new kitchens, lounges,
some mechanical system improvements, bathroom renovations, painting and new
carpeting. The majority of the work will begin in June and be completed in
August.
- Blue Room in Faunce House: Renovations to the Blue Room on the first floor
and lower Blue Room on the basement level will include a new campus market.
Renovations upstairs will include new equipment, flooring, lighting,
installation of air conditioning, painting and furnishings. The work is
expected to be completed in November.
- 29 Manning: This project will turn a former single-family residence into
office space for the Urban Studies Program. Renovation will include new heating
and air conditioning, new wiring and lighting, converting the garage into
office and mechanical space, paint and carpeting. The work will begin in June
and will be completed the end of November.
- MacMillan Hall: Preliminary work on the new undergraduate science teaching
building begins in June, with completion expected in August 1998.
