The Clinical Psychology Internship Program of Brown's School of Medicine celebrated its 20th anniversary by holding a psychology grand rounds May 1 at Butler Hospital featuring David Barlow, founder of the program and director of the Center for Stress and Anxiety Disorders and Distinguished Professor of Psychology at the State University of New York at Albany.
Each year trainees vote on the speaker for this grand rounds event; this year, they chose Barlow, who spoke on "New Developments in the Nature and Treatment of Anxiety."
As a tribute to him, the event has now been renamed the David H. Barlow Oration.
The internship program has been under the direction of Peter Monti for the past 10 years and provides training in behavioral and cognitive therapies to pre-doctoral psychology interns. Ten percent of all psychologists licensed in the state of Rhode Island are graduates of the the program.
