Among Vogel's other honors
The Pulitzer Prize for drama that went to Paula Vogel is no fluke. Her other
plays have earned awards and acclaim:
- Among Vogel's awards and honors: a 1992 Obie, two Pulitzer Prize nominations,
two NEA fellowships, a Bunting Fellowship, a McKnight Fellowship, the
Rockefeller Foundation's Bellagio Fellowship, an AT&T New Play Award, the
Fund for New American Plays Award from the Kennedy Center, a Guggenheim, and a
Pew Charitable Trust Senior Residency.
- "The Baltimore Waltz" is still being staged around the country and has been
translated and produced in France, Brazil, Spain, Germany and Finland. "When I
had my first breakthrough with 'Baltimore Waltz,' which was my 22nd play, I was
an overnight sensation," said Vogel. "But when I did it more than once, people
in the business recognized that I'm in it for the long run, and a lot of doors
started opening.... Last year I was taken into the New York theater community
like never before. People in New York definitely welcomed me at a different
level."
- "The Mineola Twins" has been produced at Trinity Rep and Perseverance Theatre
in Douglas, Alaska - to rave reviews.
- Vogel's latest anthology, "The Mammary Plays," will be published by TCG this
coming year. Her previous anthology, "The Baltimore Waltz and Other Plays," has
been published by TCG and includes "Desdemona," "And Baby Makes Seven," "The
Oldest Profession" and "Hot 'n' Throbbing."
