What is your professional background? Before coming to Brown, I worked at Dean College in Franklin, Mass., as a campus police officer/department prosecutor, and as a Rhode Island Park Police officer. At the same time, I worked as a Smithfield Police reserve officer. I graduated from Community College of Rhode Island and Roger Williams College.
What has kept you here? I enjoy working and serving the community and having a sense of duty and commitment. I also enjoy attending the Christian Fellowship as part of the department's Community Policing Initiative.
Worst part of your job? When something tragic, like a serious medical emergency, happens.
Best part of your job? I enjoy meeting different people while out in the field and the freedom one has when you are out in the field.
What is the worst stereotype folks have of this department? Sometimes people have a negative reaction to uniforms for whatever reasons. However, we are here to maintain a safe and peaceful environment.
If given the opportunity to say one thing to the entire community what would you say? I am approachable if someone has a question or concern.
What has been one of the highlights during your time with Police and Security? I received a letter of appreciation from Sigma Chi Fraternity brothers that was really nice. Positive feedback is rare, so when I receive it I am thankful. - Damaris M. Castillo-Lopes
