Faces of Brown is an occasional feature to introduce the Brown community to colleagues.
Working here since: 1984
Hobbies: Bicycling
What is your professional background? I was in the military for three years and
I was a Providence police supervisor for 8 of the 21 years I worked there.
What attracted you to Brown? I thought I would like the idea of working with
students and I thought I would like the idea of working in an academic setting.
What has kept you here? Working with such a diverse array of people - the
students and staff and faculty.
Worst part of your job? Dealing with unhappy customers or dissatisfied
individuals.
What is the best part of your job? Working with individuals who are happy and
acknowledge that we are striving and trying to provide excellent service.
What is the worst stereotype that folks have of the Parking Office? Some
people believe that there is favoritism in the parking system.
If given the opportunity to say one thing to the entire community what would
you say? In applying for parking, individuals must try to have some patience
with the Parking Office. We will try to do the best we can to suit your needs.
Many things are beyond the control of the Parking Office and basically we try
our best to work with what we have.
If you could change one thing about your job what would you change? I would
have a huge parking facility and I would shuttle students, faculty and staff
from that facility to their place of employment or study.
What has been one of the highlights during your time at Brown? The interaction
with my fellow co-workers and the community at large. - Damaris M.
