What is your professional background? I graduated from the Rhode Island Municipal Police Academy in 1979. Currently, I am enrolled in a degree program at Roger Williams University.

What attracted you to Brown? My brother Tom Jones [who has been a Brown security officer for 27 years]. He basically told me that if I was going to work in the security field I might as well come to Brown and earn some money.

What has kept you here? It has become a profession and a career for me. The field of security services has really changed. Before, it was only a job. Now, it strives for excellence.

Worst part of your job? Dealing with intoxicated students.

Best part of your job? Meeting such a diverse population of people and sharing beliefs and different perspectives with them.

If you could change one thing about your job what would you change? I would like to change the bad attitude and perception that some students have about our police department and have them see beyond the uniform.

If given the opportunity to say one thing to the entire community what would you say? God is real. Seek him while he can still be found.

What has been one of the highlights during your time with Police and Security? Watching the department strive for optimal professionalism throughout the years and go from a security department to a full service police department. - Damaris M. Castillo-Lopes
