Faces of Brown: Kevin Pepere, campus police officer

Faces of Brown is an occasional feature to introduce the Brown community to colleagues.

Age: 31

Working here since: March 11, 1996

Hobbies: Sailboat racing, golf, marine aquariums, popular music

What is your professional background? Before joining Police and Security I served as a campus police officer at the University of Rhode Island.

What attracted you to Brown? Job stability

What has kept you here? The diversity of the community. In one instance I may be dealing with the common daily interactions among the students and employees, and a minute later I may be confronting a nonaffiliated suspect who committed a crime within the Brown community.

Worst part of the job: Not to be armed is extremely dangerous, considering the fact that Brown University is an open campus and vulnerable to the criminal elements. I feel limited to the amount of protection I can provide to the Brown community.

Best part of the job: The gratification when helping people in need, and the satisfaction of bringing to justice those who are suspected of breaking the law.

If given the opportunity to say one thing to the entire community, what would you say? The department is here for you. We pride ourselves in establishing a good rapport with the Brown community. It's a team effort between the officers, faculty, staff and students in order to get the job done.

If you could change one thing about your job, what would you change? To become a full service police department in all aspects of police work.

What has been one of the highlights during your time with police and security? To have been promoted from being a security officer to a campus police officer and graduating from the Rhode Island Municipal Police Training Academy.
