Donate a book during Staff Development Day

Members of the Brown community are being asked to donate new books to help a public service project being sponsored on Tuesday, July 31, by the President's Staff Advisory Committee and the Brown Bookstore.

The books will be used to help establish a library for Sophia Academy, an alternative school opening this fall in Providence for girls in grades 5-8. Donors may choose instead to donate the new books to the Read to Me and Reading is Fundamental programs at Hasbro Children's Hospital.

The new books can be dropped off at the President's Staff Advisory Committee/Bookstore Café - a tent on The College Green during Staff Development Day on Tuesday, July 31. Members of the Brown community may purchase books at the tent, where the bookstore is offering 20 percent off the retail prices, and volunteer for the hospital's Read to Me Program.

When selecting books, the sponsors urge donors to keep in mind that these programs serve many bilingual, multicultural and Spanish-speaking children.

Each donor can sign a bookplate and will receive a coupon for a 20 percent discount at the bookstore.

For more information about the program, telephone SAC chair Ann D'Abrosca at 863-3983 or send e-mail to her.
