Page Turners

Read any good books lately? Share your book recommendations with other Brunonians by sending e-mail to Events@brown.edu. Be sure to include your name, your title and department, the name of the book and author, and your brief critique. This week's page turners are:

Merwin Sibulkin, professor emeritus, engineering

• "On Democracy" by Robert A. Dahl: "This brief book is a beautiful example of logical exposition. It gives a theoretical treatment of the necessary conditions for an ideal democracy followed by discussions of the problems — and some of the solutions — of practical democracies."

Kelley Smith, administrative and editorial coordinator, Population Studies and Training Center

• "Watership Down" by Richard Adams: "I somehow missed out on reading this book as a child, but am pleased to report that this allegorical novel is just as enjoyable for adults. It features a taut, compelling narrative, fully developed characters, and enough magic and mythology to satisfy even the most discerning Harry Potter fans! Potential readers should not be put off just because it purports to be about simple field rabbits. A lovely read."
