Staff Advisory Committee seeks recording secretary

The President’s Staff Advisory Committee (SAC) seeks a Brown staff member to perform the duties of recording secretary.

The responsibilities include:

• taking minutes of all semi-monthly regular meetings and special meetings;

• preparing meeting schedules and room reservations;

• distributing meeting materials;

• ordering food and preparing room for meetings;

• posting approved minutes to SAC Web site within five days of approval;

• assisting SAC chair with other occasional duties as required.

The person appointed to this one-year renewable position must have his or her supervisor’s approval. The position carries an annual stipend.

On the Road

James M. Baker, professor of music, recently participated in the 25th national conference of the Musicological Society of Australia, held at the Conservatorium of Newcastle University. The conference featured a number of sessions devoted to the topic "Performance as Research." Baker, who teaches a course on "Analysis and Performance of Music" (Music 109), presented a paper on the influence of bel canto operatic singing on the legendary pianist Vladimir Horowitz.
