Awards and honors
Harold
Kushner, professor
emeritus of applied mathematics, is the recipient of the Bellman Heritage
Award, presented by the American Automatic Control Council, for "his
fundamental and seminal contributions to stochastic systems theory, which
created the foundation of a substantial part of the field."
The award is
presented to one person each year for the substantial lifetime contributions
and is one of the most prestigious awards in the field. It is named for Richard
Bellman, a pioneer in modern decision theory.
The council is
composed of all of the U.S. professional organizations concerned with control
and systems theory and practice, plus the International Federation of Automatic
Control.
Associate
Professor of Music Todd Winkler
and Director of Orchestras and Chamber Music Paul S. Phillips have been selected as recipients of
ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) Awards for
2004-05. The awards are granted by an independent panel and are based upon the
unique prestige value of each writer's catalogue of original compositions, as
well as recent performances.
