FAQ:

Does my department get charged if I am approved through the EEP to take a course?

Departments are never charged for approved courses through the EEP.

Who’s eligible to use the EEP?

Regular staff working at least 67% - 100%, who are in good standing and have completed a six- month waiting period at  the time of application. Faculty, spouses, dependents, and those on the limited duration payroll are not eligible for the EEP.

When is the application due?

Applications should be submitted at least two weeks prior to the start of the course, but will be accepted up to the start date of the courseApplications are not accepted after the start date of the course.

When will I be eligible to participate in the EEP?

All employees must have completed a six-month waiting period at the time of application.

Is the EEP administered on a fiscal year or calendar year basis?

The EEP is administered on a fiscal year basis from July 1-June 30.

My course starts in one fiscal year and will be completed in the next fiscal year. Which fiscal year does my course get charged to?

The start date of the course determines the benefit year from which the money is allocated.

If I do not use the full fiscal year $2,500 maximum for courses outside of Brown, can I roll the balance left from one fiscal year over to the next fiscal year?

Any balances left from one fiscal year cannot be rolled over to the next fiscal year.

Can I audit a course?

To audit a course, you will need to contact the Office of Summer and Continuing Studies at 401-863-7900 for information.

Will I be notified that I have been approved to take a course through the EEP?   

Once your application is approved and processed, you will receive a copy of your approved course application for your records.

If I have qualified for a Pell Grant or Scholarship can I still apply for the EEP?

Award money is applied to tuition first; therefore, the EEP can only cover the balance of tuition not covered by the award money.

Can I still apply for the EEP if I am receiving financial aid?

Yes.
