As members of the Brown community, we are able to take advantage of the numerous privileges associated with University life. Listed below are some benefits, services, and programs available to us throughout the academic year and, in most cases, in the summer as well.

Department/Service Description
Annmary Brown Memorial Built in 1907 by Rush Hawkins as a memorial to his wife, Annmary Brown, this exhibit features European and American paintings from the 17th through the 20th centuries, the Cyril and Harriet Mazansky British Sword Collection, as well as personal mementos of its founder, General Rush C. Hawkins, and the Brown family.

Athletics & Physical Education

The Department of Physical Education works to promote and advance healthy lifestyle choices with programs designed to maximize participation and accommodate a wide range of interests and abilities.

Bell Gallery
The David Winton Bell Gallery presents 6-8 major exhibitions each academic year. The exhibition program includes an annual student show and a triennial faculty exhibition, as well as an annual New England artists' show. The Gallery is handicapped accessible.

Bookstore

The Brown Bookstore offers a host of bargains for the savvy and discriminating shopper. Take advantage of the several storewide sales held throughout the year in which general books and merchandise are usually discounted 20%. The Bookstore also offers a Book Club Card that gives you up to 30% off after 10 books have been purchased. Check out their web site for information on special events and new services.
Brown-Trinity Rep Consortium

Enjoy an evening at Trinity Repertory Theater; Brown community members pay $25.00 at the Box Office when you show your Brown Card.

 

Brown University Relaxation Project (BURP)

The Brown University Relaxation Project (BURP) is a group of students dedicated to promoting stress relief and relaxation to the Brown community. They have been trained by a licensed massage therapist and offer free, stress reducing shoulder rubs during the academic year. Visit the Memorial Room, on the 2nd floor of Faunce House, on Wednesdays between 1:00-2:00pm.
Caregiver Support Group The Caregiver Support Group is targeted to Brown faculty and staff who care for a sick or elderly family member. The group meets every Wednesday at noon and the meetings are strictly confidential.
Catering Let Catering make your Thanksgiving desserts! Watch for their flyer in early November to order delicious rolls, pies, cakes, and more!
Chaplains & Religious Life The multifaith chaplaincy at Brown works to ensure that all beliefs can find a home on campus. Manning Chapel, Brown Hillel, and the Brown Muslim Student Center represent some of the more established centers for religious services at Brown.

Faculty Club

The Brown Faculty Club provides a year-round, private, and attractive gathering place that is perfect for dining or for entertaining associates, friends, and family. Yearly dues may be payroll deducted.
Farmer's Market Support Rhode Island farmers while enjoying locally produced delights including fresh greens, fruits and vegetables, homemade jams, delicious baked goods, and much more! Your taste buds will thank you for it! Enjoy the market every Wednesday throughout the fall on Wriston Quad (weather permitting) from 11:00am-2:00pm. This program is coordinated by Dining Services.
Greenhouse

The Conservatory is open daily from 7:30am to 3:30pm, special circumstances notwithstanding.
School groups and garden club tours must be arranged in advance.

Haffenreffer Museum

Explore the richness and diversity of the world's cultures at the Haffenreffer Museum. Visit them at their main base in Bristol, or stop by their satellite gallery located in Manning Hall on the Main Green.

Health Services Visit Health Services any Wednesday before 9:00am for blood pressure and cholesterol screenings; flu shots are also available in the fall.
John Carter Brown Library

Exhibitions in the MacMillan Reading Room are open 8:30am to 5:00pm Monday through Friday, and Saturday 9:00am until noon. The Simón Bolívar Room is open on request.

Ladd Observatory Ladd Observatory is open to the public, free of charge, Tuesday evenings, from 8:00pm to 10:00PM, weather permitting.  Please call 863-2323 for updated information.
Leeds/Stuart Theaters
Brown faculty and staff receive $5 off the price of general admission tickets with a Brown Card.

Planetary Data Center

Located on the 2nd floor of the Lincoln Field Building, the Brown/NASA Northeast Planetary Data Center is a public facility designed to make available to all researchers, educators, and the general public the vast amount of image data obtained by the U.S. Space Program from 1962 to the present.  The Center is open Monday through Thursday from 9:00am to 4:00pm.
Rites and Reason Theater Plays are held in the Bass Performing Arts Space and the suggested donation is $8.00.
Sarah Doyle Gallery

The Sarah Doyle Gallery exhibits 5-6 juried shows a year, as well as a staff-faculty show, a commencement show, and various special exhibits.

The Staff Advisory Committee (SAC) Get involved with SAC! The President's Staff Advisory Committee was created in 1998 to facilitate active communication between University staff and the President and to provide a forum to discuss and investigate University issues.
Summer & Continuing Studies The Program in Continuing Studies offers a variety of non-credit educational programs. Job-related courses are covered under the Employee Education Program (EEP).
Transportation Office Current faculty, staff, and students are able to ride any RIPTA bus or trolley anytime, anywhere in the state, at no charge. Swipe your Brown Card through RIPTA's new fareboxes and take a seat - it's that easy!
