Learning & Professional Development
English as a Second Language

ESL is a series of small group sessions designed to enhance English speaking and writing skills, with a focus on job-site speaking and writing. Participants will learn to understand and respond to a variety of verbal and written communications, including job-related instructions, schedules and safety information. Participants may also practice preparing work-related materials such as job orders, recipes and basic reports. The program is at no cost to Brown staff members. Enrollment is limited to 20 per class. Participant's must have their supervisor's approval to attend. Supervisors are encouraged to recommend and support each participant's attendance.

Classes run during the semester on Tuesday and Thursday, from 2-4 pm, in Dining Room 6 in the Sharpe Refectory. All classes are taught by a Project RIRAL instructor. Class announcements are made at the beginning of each semester via Morning Mail and flyers. Placement tests are required to join the class.
