What is the Enrolled Student Survey?
The Enrolled Student Survey (ESS) has been designed to learn more about the lives of undergraduate students at Brown University. From time to time while you are at Brown, you are asked to evaluate your academic experience as well as various offices and services. The ESS is unique in that it asks all of these questions on one survey and gives the entire undergraduate body the opportunity to reflect and provide feedback.
The last time the ESS was administered at Brown was spring 2007, so your participation now is very important. Brown has changed a great deal in just four years - from the growth in the number of faculty to the new Creative Arts Center. President Simmons and other members of the senior administration value your feedback.
How long will it take me to complete the ESS?
The ESS is extensive in the types of questions asked, yet it does not take long to complete. Most students will find that they can answer all of the questions in approximately 10-15 minutes.
Why is the survey hosted at an MIT website? Are my responses confidential?
Brown participates in the ESS with a group of other institutions. As a way to share resources and to make the process run smoothly, MIT maintains the survey website for each school. Brown's Office of Institutional Research (OIR) assures the complete confidentiality of your responses. We track whether or not you have completed the survey only so that we may avoid sending you unnecessary reminders and to enter you into the raffle. When the survey has finished and OIR moves on to the analysis stage, no personal identifiers are ever used.
There's a raffle?
To show our appreciation for taking the time out of your busy schedule to complete our survey, the Office of Institutional Research will hold a raffle.
Two students will each win an iPad 2. One winner will be randomly chosen from among all undergraduates who complete the survey and the other will be chosen from the class with the highest final response rate.
