Asia in the Making of America, 1500-1800

Working as a collaborative team, Dr. Jim Egan, Dr. Robert Lee, and Dr. Caroline Frank at Brown University, Dr. Elizabeth Mankeat the University of Akron, and Dr. Peter Mancall at the University of Southern California are planning a two-year interdisciplinary project intended to bring together scholars from around the world working on the relationship of Asia to the Americas in the early modern period.  The project is seeking outside funds to sponsor two symposiums of invited scholars, a website to promote an exchange of ideas across regions and disciplines, and a two volume edited publication based on symposium contributions.  Our goal is to properly historicize America's long-standing relationship to Asia by bringing together scholars working on this topic in discrete disciplines and regions.
