PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Due to inclement weather, the rain site plan for "Celebrate Providence Day" has been put into effect.

Brown President Vartan Gregorian will present Providence Mayor Vincent A. Cianci Jr. with the first official copy of the Community Partnership Directory at 4 p.m. today (Tuesday, Sept. 17) in the Leung Gallery, second floor of Faunce House on The College Green. The directory is a compilation of more than 240 programs and offerings of the University that impact upon the Rhode Island community and beyond.

In addition to Gregorian and Cianci, the ceremony will feature Laura Freid, vice president for University Relations; Thomas Anton, director of the Taubman Center for Public Policy and American Institutions; Christine Heenan, associate director of government and community relations; and Peter Hocking, director of the Swearer Center for Public Service. Hocking will announce the recipient of the first Brian Dickinson Public Service Award. Community leaders, public officials, students, faculty and staff involved in public service will attend.

The Community Partnership Directory was compiled by the Office of Government and Community Relations and the Howard R. Swearer Center for Public Service. It contains descriptions and lists contact persons for more than 240 programs and offerings of the University that affect the community. The directory includes such activities as mentoring newly arrived children from Southeast Asia, Brown athletic teams adopting classrooms in the Fox Point Elementary School, operating a summer camp for children affected by HIV and AIDS, and providing companionship and support for children stricken with cancer.
