Mayor Cianci to give President Vartan Gregorian a good farewell roasting
Providence Mayor Buddy Cianci, URI President Emeritus Ted Eddy and 1987 Brown graduate Hannelore Rodriguez-Farrar will be the featured roasters at a farewell reception for Brown President Vartan Gregorian Tuesday, June 10, 1997, on the Pembroke Green. The farewell roast, to be opened with a proclamation by Gov. Lincoln Almond, will be hosted by the Brown Club of Rhode Island.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Almond will read a proclamation and Providence Mayor Vincent A. "Buddy" Cianci Jr. will lead a trio of roasters at a farewell reception for outgoing Brown President Vartan Gregorian. University of Rhode Island President Emeritus Edward D. Eddy and 1987 Brown graduate Hannelore Rodriguez-Farrar will join Cianci. The reception, hosted by the Brown Club of Rhode Island, will begin at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, on the Pembroke Green near Alumnae Hall.
Editors: The reception is for invited guests of the Brown Club of Rhode Island and is not open to the general public. Members of the press are welcome to attend the roast. Call the News Bureau for further information.
Outgoing Brown Club President Kevin Tracy, Class of 1985, will call the roast to order at approximately 5:15 p.m. and turn the proceedings over to roastmistress Rita Michaelson, Class of 1950 and a trustee emerita of Brown. The program includes the governor's proclamation and remarks by the three roasters, after which Gregorian will deliver his response.
Invited guests include all Brown alumni in Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts, all local parents of current Brown students, and more than 150 local politicians, educators and heads of non-profit organizations.
