Barry Bluestone


Barry Bluestone, a founding member of the Economic Policy Institute, is the Frank L. Boyden professor of political economy at the University of Massachusetts/Boston, and a senior fellow at the University's John W. McCormack Institute of Public Affairs. He is the founding director of UMass/Boston's Ph.D. program in public policy. Before going to UMass in 1986, he taught economics at Boston College and was director of the university's Social Welfare Research Institute. On partial leave from UMass/Boston in 1995, Bluestone served as a member of the senior policy staff of Congressman Richard Gephardt, and continues to serve as a policy advisor to the Democratic leadership in both the U.S. House and Senate. He contributes regularly to academic and popular journals, is the author of six books, and is working on two new books.
