Robert I. Lerman


Robert I. Lerman, currently on leave from American University, is the director of the Human Resource Policy Center at the Urban Institute. At American University, he served as professor and chairman of the Department of Economics from 1989 to 1995. Previously, Lerman served as the director of research and senior research associate at the Center for Human Resources at the Heller School for Social Welfare, and as an economist for the special assistant for youth and welfare policy at the Department of Labor. He has published numerous articles, papers, book reviews and books, including What Works in Youth Employment Policy? How to Help Young Workers from Poor Families (1985). Lerman serves on numerous advisory boards focused on youth, education, and training, including the National Youth Apprenticeship Initiative and American Enterprise Institute Panel on Disconnected Youth.
