Brown invites Ladd Observatory neighbors for tour and view of night sky

Brown University has invited its East Side neighbors near the Ladd Observatory to a special preview reception, tour and viewing of the night sky Wednesday, Aug. 26, 1998. The Observatory has been fully renovated and its grounds have been redesigned to provide an attractive green space for the neighborhood.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Brown University has invited its neighbors near Ladd Observatory to a special preview reception, tour and viewing of the night sky at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26, 1998. The historic building, fully renovated and equipped for astronomical studies, is now surrounded by landscaped grounds, creating a striking new green space on the East Side.

If cloudy or overcast conditions prevent a viewing of the night sky, the event will be rescheduled for Thursday, Aug. 27. In that case, a yellow banner will be placed on the Observatory's front lawn Wednesday as a signal that the event has been rescheduled.

Editors: Although members of the press are invited to attend, this preview reception is designed for the University's neighbors near Ladd Observatory and is not open to the general public. Admission is by invitation only. Special press tours can be arranged prior to the reception. Please contact the News Bureau if you wish to attend.
