Brown-RISD pumpkin-carving contest on Brown's College Green Oct. 30
A pumpkin-carving contest for students of Rhode Island School of Design and Brown University will be held Friday, Oct. 30, 1998, on The College Green at Brown. Judging begins at 7 p.m. Prizes will be awarded at 9 p.m. by Providence Mayor Vincent A. Cianci Jr. Some of the pumpkins will go to Hasbro Children's Hospital. Others will be displayed at WaterFire Oct. 31.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Brown University and Rhode Island School of Design students will get into the Halloween spirit Friday night, Oct. 30, with a pumpkin-carving contest on The College Green at Brown University.
The festivities for the students begin around 6 p.m. under a 30-by-90-foot tent. A panel of judges, including RISD President Roger Mandle, will select winners. Providence Mayor Vincent A. Cianci Jr. will present the prizes at 9 p.m.
Afterward, some of the pumpkins will go to Hasbro Children's Hospital; others will be displayed at dusk on Oct. 31 at Waterplace Park, providing a "PumpkinFire" component to that evening's WaterFire.
