The handbook was given to you when you
signed your study abroad leave. Check out the suggestions and
important details for your time abroad and returning to Brown.
Remember that you must take the normal (not minimum) full-time courseload at your host institution in order to receive 4 Brown credits per semester. Students attending Approved Alternative Programs can consult the link above to review what Brown considers the full-time courseload for your program.
If you are attending a Petition Program and are unsure of the normal full-time courseload at your institution, please contact the OIP.
If you are planning to drop below the full-time courseload, you must contact the OIP to verify that you can do so without jeopardizing your academic standing or delaying your graduation date.
During a disaster overseas, American consular officers can assist in evacuation should that become necessary. But they cannot assist you if they do not know where you are.
In most cases, students will find that it is possible (although
not always simple) to initiate a thesis while abroad, however,
professor/advisor choice may be limited.
Many important fellowship award applications are due early in
the first semester of senior year. You can greatly increase your
chances of success if you start preparing now.
Over 60 regional Brown Clubs/Associations represent Brown in communities
around the world. These groups act as the umbrella for all alumni
activity in the area, including career networking and events for
young alumni.
