| In establishing its connections with British universities, Brown has sought out institutions with excellent reputations for teaching and research. Brown students are fully enrolled at these British universities, studying and interacting with their British counterparts in a university setting.
Brown offers a wide array of study abroad options throughout the UK. Selecting a British university at which to study abroad is similar to choosing an American college to attend as an undergraduate. An institution's academic strengths, location and vitality of campus life are the main considerations. Because Britain is a compact nation, public transportation is efficient and the offerings of city life are within reach.
Sites outside of London (such as
Glasgow, Edinburgh, Bristol, or Leeds)
offer significantly cheaper costs of living and the opportunity for more in-depth contact with British life and culture. Residential-style campuses, that are a marked contrast to the commuter-styled campuses found in many cities, are found in other sites outside of London. Specially qualified students may apply for study with the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London or at the University College of Wales at Aberystwyth.
Brown, Cornell, and the University of Pennsylvania jointly maintain an office in London, the Cornell-Brown-Penn United Kingdom Centre. London is a leading world city, with marvelous theatres, museums, restaurants, concerts and historical monuments, in a rich multicultural environment. Students studying all over the UK on the Brown program will be invited several times to attend functions in the city and so to taste the cultural life there.
