Brown in the Czech Republic - Academics
Curriculum
CHP offers European Studies courses in the Social Sciences and Humanities with a focus on Czech or Central European issues.
Courses are taught in English by Czech scholars from several of Prague's major academic institutions, including Charles University, Central European University and the Czech Academy of Sciences.
Courses vary each semester, but topics have included literature, film studies, economics, psychology, folklore, history, art history, gender studies, Jewish studies, political science, macrogeography, sociology, and the possibility of an independent studies course.
The program begins with an orientation, which provides students with basic survival skills in Czech language, cultural insight and knowledge of the city. Two- or three day-long field trips to historical sites outside Prague and one extended trip to Poland or Hungary are scheduled as part of the program.
During the semester, students are required to take four courses, including a Czech language course.
