Check Your Email!!
The OIP and other Brown Departments will be corresponding with you via email throughout your time away. Make sure to give the OIP an active email address that you will be checking regularly while you are away. Make sure to clear your Brown email account periodically so that important messages do not bounce back to the sender. If you need to update your contact information with the OIP, simply contact the main office.

Enhance Your Experience by Sharing It
Keeping a journal or blog and taking lots of photos are excellent ways to capture and deepen your experience abroad. There are many opportunities available to share your ruminations more widely with tangible and in some cases pecuniary benefits:
Publication Opportunities
- The College Hill Independent: Indy Abroad (PDF)
The College Hill Independent (the Indy) is a weekly publication put out by Brown and RISD students. In recent years, the Indy has provided a home for stories written by students abroad, Indy Abroad. - National Geographic Glimpse Correspondents Program
The Glimpse Correspondents Program is an exciting opportunity for talented young writers and photographers who will be living abroad for at least ten weeks. The program encourages participants to engage with people from other cultures, to seek out thought-provoking experiences, and to share their stories from abroad with others.
Contests
- OIP Annual Photo Contest
Each spring the OIP accepts photo submissions from students who studied abroad the previous fall and spring terms. The photos are judged based on cross-cultural content and artistic and technical quality. Monetary prizes and publicity for winning submissions.
