Crime Advisory – Arrest

May 12, 2012

The Brown University Department of Public Safety would like to notify the community of a robbery and apprehension of the suspects, occurring on May 12, 2012 at approximately 2:39 a.m.

Incident: 

On Saturday, May 12, 2012 at approximately 2:39 a.m., a Brown University student, while walking east on Benevolent Street between Brook Street and Hope Street, was approached from behind by three male suspects who then assaulted and robbed the student of his backpack.  The suspects then fled the scene on foot toward Hope Street.  Two of the suspects were apprehended near the scene by Brown University Police Officers.  The suspects were positively identified as being responsible for the robbery and placed under arrest.

Safety Information:

As a reminder, many crimes of opportunity occur by suspects taking advantage of individuals distracted by or talking on their cell phones. DPS encourages all members of the Community to continue to be vigilant and proactive in maximizing their personal safety - talking or texting on your phone or listening to music with headphones will make you less aware of your surroundings. Crime Alert – Robbery

April 3, 2012

 The Brown University Department of Public Safety would like to notify the Community of a robbery that occurred at Cooke Street and Power Street.

INCIDENT

On Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at approximately 7:30 pm, a male victim, non Brown affiliated, was walking south on Cooke Street near the intersection of Power Street.  The victim was approached from behind, knocked to the ground and robbed of his personal belongings.  The suspects were last seen fleeing the area on foot in a westerly direction on Power Street.

SUSPECTS

Suspect #1: Is described as a male approximately 14 – 16 years of age, thin build and wearing a gray zippered hooded sweatshirt and dark pants.

Suspect #2:  Is described as a male approximately 14 – 16 years of age, thin build and wearing a dark sweatshirt.

The incident is under investigation by the Providence Police Department and the Brown University Department of Public Safety.

Crime Advisory – Arrest Made

March 17, 2012

The Brown University Department of Public Safety would like to notify the community of a robbery and apprehension of the suspect, occurring on March 17, 2012 at approximately 1:10 a.m.

Incident: 

On Saturday, March 17, 2012 at approximately 1:10 a.m., a Brown University student, while walking near the intersection of Brook Street and Euclid Street, was approached by a male suspect who then assaulted and robbed the student of his cell phone.  The suspect then fled the scene on foot and was apprehended near the scene by Brown University Police Officers.  The suspect was positively identified as responsible for the robbery and placed under arrest.

Crime Alert – Robbery

March 13, 2012

The Brown University Department of Public Safety would like to notify the Community of a robbery that occurred on George Street between Prospect Street and Benefit Street.

Incident:

On Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at approximately 10:49 p.m., a Brown University student was walking on George Street between Prospect Street and Benefit Street.  The student was grabbed from behind, assaulted and robbed of his cellular phone and money.

The suspects were last seen fleeing the area on foot one towards Benefit Street and the other towards Magee Street.

Suspect:

Suspect #1: Was described as wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt and a medium build.

Suspect #2:  Unknown description

Crime Alert – Robbery

February 11, 2012

The Brown University Department of Public Safety would like to notify the Community of a robbery that occurred near the intersection of Brown Street and Creighton Street.

Incident:

On Saturday, February11, 2012, at approximately 8:45 p.m. a male victim was walking north on Brown Street near the intersection of Creighton Street when he was approached from behind, assaulted, knocked to the ground and robbed of his personal belongings.  The suspects were last seen fleeing the area heading north on Brown Street toward Olney Street on foot.  

This incident is under investigation by the Providence Police Department and the Brown University Department of Public Safety.

Suspects:

The suspects were described as two black males, approximately 5’8”- 5’9” 18-20 years of age with stocky builds.

Description: 

Suspect #1 described as wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and dark baggie pants.

Suspect #2 described as wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and dark baggie pants.

Crime Alert – Robbery

February 5, 2012

 The Brown University Department of Public Safety would like to notify the Community of a robbery that occurred near the intersection of Brown Street and Bowen Street.

 Incident:

On Sunday, February 5, 2012 at approximately 01:24 a.m., a male victim was walking north on Brown Street near the intersection of Bowen Street when he was approached from behind, assaulted and knocked to the ground.  The male victim was robbed of his personal belongings.  The suspect was last seen fleeing the area in a tan or silver station wagon type vehicle heading east on Bowen Street.

This incident is under investigation by the Providence Police Department and the Brown University Department of Public Safety.

Suspect:

Was described as a black male, medium build wearing a light grey hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.

Crime Alert- Armed Robbery

January 28, 2012

The Providence Police and the Brown University Department of Public Safety responded to an armed robbery that occurred on January 28, 2012 at approximately 6:50 pm. on Bowen Street between Thayer Street & Brook Street.

Incident:

On Saturday, January 28, 2012 at approximately 6:50 pm, five males were walking on Bowen Street towards Brook Street when four to six black males approached them and demanded their personal items.  One of the males displayed a small caliber handgun.  The suspects then fled the scene by running westbound on Bowen Street toward Thayer Street.

Suspects:

The suspects were described as four to six black males approximately 5’10” – 6’0” thin build.  One of the suspects was wearing a red and white Chicago Bulls baseball type hat.  A second suspect described as wearing a white and red striped tee shirt or sweat shirt.  And the remaining suspects were described as wearing black hooded sweatshirts and dark colored pants. 

The incident is under investigation by the Providence Police Department and the Brown University Department of Public Safety.

 

Crime Alert – Robbery

December 21, 2011

 The Brown University Department of Public Safety would like to notify the Community of a robbery that occurred near the intersection of Thayer Street and Cushing Street.

Incident:

On Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at approximately 10:55 p.m. Brown University Department of Public Safety was notified by the Providence Police Department of a strong armed robbery.  The incident took place at the intersection of Thayer Street and Cushing Street.  The victim, not affiliated with the University, was assaulted by two suspects. One of the suspects took the victims wallet.  Both suspects then fled on foot. This incident is under investigation by the Providence Police Department.

Suspect:

Suspect #1: Was described as a white with a goatee type beard, wearing dark clothing with an unknown design on the front of his hooded sweatshirt.

Suspect #2:  Was described as a white male wearing dark clothing.

Crime Alert – Robbery
October 23, 2011

The Brown University Department of Public Safety would like to notify the Community of a robbery that occurred at approximately 2:20 p.m. near the intersection of Brown Street and Meeting Street.

Incident:
On Sunday, October 23, 2011, at approximately 2:20 p.m., a Brown University student was walking west on Meeting Street near the intersection of Brown.  The student was approached from behind by two suspects.  One of the suspects assaulted and robbed the student of his personal belongings.  The suspects were last seen running west on Brown Street toward the downtown area of Providence.

This incident is under investigation by the Providence Police Department and the Brown University Department of Public Safety.

Suspects:
Both suspects were described as possibly being between the ages of 18 and 25 years old.

Suspects # 1: Was described as a Hispanic male approximately six (6) feet tall.

Suspect # 2:   Was described as an African American male approximately six (6) feet tall, wearing a black coat, gray jeans and sneakers with red markings on them.

Crime Alert - Assault
July 14, 2011


The Brown University Department of Public Safety would like to notify the Community of an assault that occurred on July 14th 2011 at approximately 1:30 a.m. near the intersection of Brook Street and Bowen Street.

Incident:

On Thursday, July 14th 2011 at approximately 1:30 a.m., a Brown University student while walking near the intersection of Brook Street and Bowen Street was approached by at least two unknown subjects from behind and then assaulted.  The suspects then fled the scene on foot in an unknown direction.


Suspect:

There are no suspect descriptions at this time.

Community Notification: Campus Crime Update

Issued: April 27, 2011

The Brown University Department of Public Safety is issuing this update of the recent criminal activity which occurred adjacent to the campus area over the past two days.

On Wednesday, April 27, 2011, at approximately 3:45 AM, Providence Police and Brown University Police Officers apprehended two suspects responsible for several recent robberies, which occurred on April 26th and April 27th.

Both suspects were arrested moments after committing three separate street robberies in the campus vicinity, all occurring between 3:20 AM - 3:40 AM on April 27th. 

The victims in each incident were not injured and several stolen items taken from the victims during the robberies were recovered. 

 

Crime Alert- Armed Robbery

April 26, 2011

The Providence Police and the Brown University Department of Public Safety responded to an armed robbery that occurred on April 26, 2011 at approximately 12:50 a.m. on Brook Street near the Citizen's Bank on Waterman Street.

Incident:

On Tuesday, April 26th, 2011, at approximately 12:50 a.m two Brown University students  walking on Brook Street approaching Waterman Street noticed a white colored vehicle with four occupants enter the Citizen's Bank parking lot and park.   At this time, an unknown male suspect exited the rear passenger side of the suspect vehicle.  The suspect then displayed a knife and demanded all their money.  The suspect then told the two students to just walk away.   The suspect then entered the rear passenger side of the white vehicle which fled Northbound on Brook Street.

Suspect:

The male suspect was described as Hispanic, approximately 5’7” - 5'-10" 200 lbs with dark colored hair, thin beard and mustache.  The suspect was described as wearing a black long sleeve tee-shirt and black gym shorts.  

The vehicle which contained four occupants is described as a white four door sedan, unknown make, model or registration.  

The incident is under investigation by the Providence Police Department and the Brown University Department of Public Safety.

 

 

CRIME ALERT-ROBBERY
March 23, 2011



The Brown University Department of Public Safety would like to notify the Community of a robbery that occurred at approximately 11:11 p.m. near the intersection of Waterman Street and Governor Street.


Incident:

On Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at approximately 11:11 p.m., a Brown University student was walking east on Waterman Street. As he crossed Governor Street, he observed three unknown males. One of the males assaulted him causing him to fall to the ground. The suspects fled the area with the victim’s property. The student sustained injuries during the assault.

The incident is under investigation by the Providence Police Department and the Brown University Department of Public Safety.

Suspect:

All three suspects were described as possibly being in their 20’s, between 5’8” and 5’10” tall with a thin build.

Suspects # 1 & 2: Were described as African American males wearing dark clothing.

Suspect # 3: Was described as wearing a light colored t-shirt.

CRIME ALERT-PURSE SNATCH

March 6, 2011


The Brown University Department of Public Safety was informed by the Providence Police Department of a purse snatch which occurred at approximately 2:30 a.m., near the intersection of Thayer Street and Angell Street.

Incident:

On Sunday, March 6, 2011 at approximately 2:30 a.m., a Brown University student was walking north on Thayer Street, between Angell Street and Olive Street when she was approached from behind by an unidentified female asking for money. The suspect then grabbed the victim’s purse and ran south on Thayer Street, towards Angell Street.

The incident is under investigation by the Providence Police Department and the Brown University Department of Public Safety.

Suspect:

The suspect was described as a Hispanic female between 20-25 years of age, approximately 5’5” to 5’7” tall, with brown eyes and brown hair, pulled back into a pony tail. She was wearing a black short sleeve shirt and black pants.
