The Sheridan Center offers workshops and individualized pedagogical support, both during the preparation of Summer Studies courses and over the course of the summer session.
Workshops
Course Proposal Workshop
Each fall, the Center offers a workshop to help graduate students create compelling course descriptions and syllabi in advance of the Summer Studies proposal deadline.
The seminar provides an overview of teaching in Summer Studies and addresses how to propose and design a Summer Studies course.
See the Center's Events Calendar for details.
Course Preparation Workshop
Each spring, the Center runs a seminar designed to assist graduate students with their preparation for teaching Summer Studies courses. The seminar is designed to help instructors refine their course goals and objectives, consider the pacing and organization of their course, and identify appropriate forms of assessment. See the Center's Events Calendar for details.
Consulting Services
Course Consultation
The Course Consultation offers a chance to get collegial advice on course design, implementation and revision.
Summer Studies instructors can meet with a Teaching Consultant to review selected aspects of their courses, such as the syllabus, the use of artifacts and objects, and the implementation and utilization of course websites, on-line discussion boards and other kinds of instructional technology.
To request a Course Consultation, please email the Sheridan Center.
Presentation Consultation
The Presentation Consultation provides an opportunity to practice an oral presentation before appearing in the classroom.
Typically, one of the Teaching Consultants is sent to each Presentation Consultation, and while the observee may be concerned with a particular aspect of her/his delivery, the consultant offers feedback on the presentation as a whole.
For further information, see the Presentation Consultation Guidelines.

Individual Teaching Consultation
The Individual Teaching Consultation (ITC) is an opportunity for instructors to have trained consultants observe their class and provide feedback on the experience. Upon request, the Center will provide two trained Teaching Consultants to observe and videotape a class and to provide feedback on their observations. The observee submits a written account of the pedagogical goals for the specific class to be observed and their relationship to the pedagogical goals for the course as a whole. The consultants evaluate how effectively the observee meets his or her stated goals. The consultants prepare a final report on their observations that they discuss with the observee in a follow-up meeting. This report is completely confidential and drafted exclusively for the use of the observee. Click here for more information or to request an ITC.
